Frequently asked questions....

We use generation 1 segways (i180 / i170 / i167 / P133). Although the generation 2 segways are now avaliable in Spain we do not believe they are suitable for tours in Madrid.

What does Madsegs mean?

Madsegs is an abbreviation of Madrid Secure Environment Glides. This name was adopted as it allows a foreigner/s to see Madrid safer(themselves and there belongings with a monitor), and with less effort than they could normally on there own.

Why is it called a glide?

The Segway HT is revolutionary and cannot be compared to walking, riding, skating or any other form of transport. As the Segway HT generates very little noise and operates mainly on your body movement (shift of balance), it is closer to hang gliding than any other machine/vehicle.

Where do your tours start?

For all glides the meeting point is Plaza de España with easy metro access via lines 10, 2 and 3.

How easy is it to use a Segway HT (human transport)?

How long did it take you to learn to ride a bicycle? Drive a car? Roller skate? A Segway HT will normally take you between 10-20 seconds to become stable and only minutes to move, turn, accelerate and stop. Within an hour most people are comfortable to move from the beginners setting to intermediate level.

What happens if it rains?

A Segway HT is completely waterproof and able to operate in rainy and wet conditions. Remember a Segway HT is an extention of your movements and just as you would take care when walking/running in wet or rainy conditions, the same care must be applied when using a Segway HT in the rain/wet conditions.

Do I have to wear any safety gear?

A Safety helmet will be supplied for each glider on a glide but as it is not mandatory in Spain to wear one, the decision is yours.

Can children use a Segway HT?

The Segway HT is an intelligent mode of transport and makes calculations for you. There are sensors in the base that detect when you have lost your balance or at worst fallen off. Due to this there is a minimum weight of 35kg for any rider. When gliding you are the responsible person and in complete control of the Segway HT, so we at Madsegs, for your safety and others have applied a minimum age of 17 (10 if accompanied by parents and a safety helmet is mandatory).

How safe is using a Segway HT?

The Segway HT has redundant systems and sophisticated alerts built into its design, and many thousands of hours of use have demonstrated that the Segway HT is safe when used appropriately. It is important that Segway HT riders understand their responsibility to ride safely. Proper skill level and understanding of the Segway HT prevents injuries caused by loss of control or misuse.

How do I reserve and pay for a Glide?

Use our automated reservations page to find an avaliable slot and pay securely online a  10 € deposit, the rest to paid on the glide. This will confirm your place/s on your selected glide. If you experience any dificulty please email us at info@madsegs.com

Who cannot use a Segway HT?

There are some limitations to using a Segway HT.

ü      You must be able to climb and descend stairs without assistance as you will be required to mount and dismount the Segway HT.

ü      You must weigh between 25-135 kg (60lb-290lb).

ü      You must have full use of your left hand to enable you to operate the steering control.
